A Pigeon Named Rainbow

August 13/2015 (Thursday)
My dad and I were going to the bottle depot and while we were coming back we saw an injured pigeon. It’s wing was injured. We were watching it to see if it’ll be okay. Unfortunately, it tried to jump on a bench…but his wing wouldn’t let him/her. We didn’t want it to suffer, so we took it home. He was struggling a lot with his wing.

We had the little pigeon over night again. We couldn’t take him to a person named Pete who helps injured animals because Pete said it was a down pour and it wasn’t a good idea for the pigeon to come.

We tried to get the pigeon to Pete again but he was “too” busy. So my dad called the vet. At first we didn’t call the vet because, well…we were told by the SPCA that you have to have a permit to take a pigeon to the vet. My dad called the vet and found out that we didn’t need a permit. He was told to bring it in Monday morning.

Today, the little pigeon got a name: we are calling it “Rainbow” because you can see different colors in the feather’s when Rainbow is in the light.

We get to take Rainbow to the vet. YAY! I am praying for his recovery.

RIP Rainbow.
We had to put pigeon down today. His wing was broken, infection was on his wing and the vet told us it probably could go into the blood stream by now, causing him to die eventually.

Dearest Rainbow,
I’m going to miss you! I know it was only a short time but you were the strongest little bird I have known. Kiwi was just starting to get used to you. Until we meet again…this time you’ll be able to fly free in heaven.

My dad and I are going to bury Rainbow at my grandma’s place. Maybe some of you don’t think that looking after a wild pigeon is okay…but many people have actually take them as pets due to injury and unable to return back to the wild. They are precious little creatures with feelings. I love birds so much. They each have different characteristics.

Fast Notes:
-Rainbow is in really good health.
-Eats food daily and drinks water frequently
-Likes to walk around the floor and check out all the rooms, especially the washroom.
-Rainbow is a very strong pigeon
-Only problem: is the wing and deep infection that couldn’t be treated by the vet. The wing would’ve had to be amputated, but that wouldn’t be fair to leave Rainbow like that.

Maybe this isn’t important to you as it is for me, but as a kid I always wanted to help wildlife rehabilitate back into their habitat. Some wildlife we cannot have in a home because you need to have a permit: like birds of prey or any other animal that is on the endangered list.

We wanted so much for Rainbow to fly out in the wild.

Revelation 5:13 NLT
And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.”

Revelation 21:4 NLT
He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.

This song was played quite a lot when Rainbow was around. ❤
